Bang & Bend: Small Scale Forging workshop with Andy Cooperman

DATES: Thurs 9/19 – Sun 9/22/24, 9am-5pm, one hour lunch

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

Forging – moving metal with a hammer – is one of the great joys of jewelry and metalsmithing and lies at its very heart. (The word “smith”, in fact, is derived from “smite” which means “to strike”). A forged object can be combined with other processes to add pizazz and depth to almost any design.

This 4-day class will explore small-scale studio forging with a focus on rings. 

We’ll get hammers swingin’ working with some exercises in copper, brass and bronze and then move into sterling with the goal of finishing at least one wearable ring or object. The skills learned here can be applied across a spectrum of metals and scales. 

Cancellations, Refunds, Missed Classes, and Pro-Rating

1. Cancellation by Salt City Smithery: If a class must be cancelled by Salt City Smithery, all registered students will be notified and a full refund will be issued to students.
2. Cancellation by Student: Salt City Smithery weekly/daily classes: If you are unable to attend a class that you have already paid for, please notify Salt City Smithery at least 72 HOURS prior to the start date of the class. Once notification is given in a timely manner, a full refund, minus $50 cancellation fee, will be given. Refunds will not be given for cancellations when notification is given less than 72 hours prior to start date of class.

Attendees are required to sign a waiver of liability at least once before registering for an open studio.
