Elegant. Bold. Methodical. Deeply satisfying.
This class invites students into the world of hand-woven silver chains through the creation of an elegant yet bold foxtail bracelet—an heirloom-quality piece built link by link, with intention and care.
Designed for advanced beginners and intermediate metalsmiths, this course is a rewarding challenge for anyone ready to deepen their skills and patience at the bench. While the techniques themselves are approachable once foundational skills are established, the project asks for focus, consistency, and a willingness to slow down and let precision guide the process.
Highly motivated beginners are welcome and supported, especially those excited to learn, practice, and see a moderately complex project through to completion. Students will learn every stage of the process, from jump ring preparation and soldering, through chain weaving, balancing, stretching, and finishing. Some steps—particularly the chain weaving—are well suited to working from home in relaxed, couple-hour sessions. This rhythm encourages both mastery and enjoyment, allowing the chain to grow steadily without burnout.
The heart of the challenge comes in the Terminations & Clasp phase. Here, students will be pushed to think like metalsmiths rather than assemblers—measuring carefully, cutting with intention, and fabricating components that both function beautifully and visually resolve the piece. This stage often marks a turning point, where foundational skills begin to click into true craftsmanship.
While the estimated project time reflects an experienced maker’s pace, students should expect to spend additional hours refining technique and developing confidence—time that pays off in skill growth and a bracelet they’ll be proud to wear. This class is for makers who enjoy a healthy challenge, appreciate process, and are ready to take a meaningful step forward in their metalsmithing journey. Expect focused work, problem-solving, plenty of guidance, and the deep satisfaction of creating a chain that feels as good as it looks.
