CLASS DESCRIPTION: Considering Clasps: One Size Doesn’t Fit All
SKILL LEVEL: Basic fabrication, knowledge of soldering is required.
Clasps are an important consideration in your handmade jewelry; they’re not one size fits all. Learn to make the tension clasp, sliding tube clasp and custom ear nuts. We will study and make a variety of hook clasps, one of the oldest forms of clasps. This class is meant to get you thinking about connections, size and scale along with functional, practical and aesthetic aspects of use. Traverse a wide world of options for your specific hand-made jewelry.
Prerequisites: Basic fabrication, knowledge of soldering is required.
Materials Required: sterling silver 22 gauge, minimally 2 by 6 sheet or a mix of 22 and 24 gauge 1 by 6 of each. No need to cut sheet down from larger piece. Have both, 16 and 18gauge sterling round wire available, minimum a foot of each.
To keep options opened I highly recommend having other thicker wire sizes available and more sheet to play with. There are many aspects of this workshop that allow serendipity.
