Keum Boo is a Korean technique in which high karat gold is fused to silver, creating a permanent bond. It is a great way to introduce gold to your work without breaking the bank.
Students will learn how to correctly prepare the silver using depletion gilding, proper handling of materials, and how to create the bond between silver and gold.
Kit fee: $60, payable in class. Materials kit includes sterling silver sheet and gold foil. Note – focus of the class will be on the technique of Keum Boo rather than making a specific project. Students can choose to make a simple pendant (time permitting) or to use the Keum Boo you create in a future project.
This is an intermediate level class – students would have some experience working with sterling silver and be familiar with using a torch.
